4 reasons why I fell in love with the Maldives 2

I had always dreamt of getting lost in a tropical paradise. With nothing but the waves as a companion. With nobody but the seagulls to talk to. What a life would it be to live like Robinson Crusoe, at least for a few days…

The isles of Maldives not only laid rest to these fantasies, but easily surpassed them. Is it for real? How on earth could something be so mesmerizing? These were the kind of questions that used to shoot inside me as I laid on the cushioned couch on the beach.

I got totally smitten by the stunning natural beauty of the Maldives. A number of reasons come up when I try to find the reasons how this bonding developed. A bond that would always provide me a feeling of never ending love and solace. Yes..Love..That’s the right word. I am in love with the Maldives. And I wish to share the reasons behind this feeling.

Island Resort System

This is one of the most important feature that sets the Maldives apart from most of the other beach destinations. There is a single resort on an entire island. Yes that’s true. You have an entire island as your playground.

The guests of a particular resort have the luxury of having an entire exclusive island at their disposal. Every resort in the Maldives has taken over an entire island, and treat it as a private property.

The islands are tiny. So just imagine getting surrounded by the Indian ocean from all sides and living that dream life of your own!!!

I stayed at the beautiful Herathera Resort, located at Addu atoll island. The entire island would not be more than 5kms in length. And it’s supposed to be one of the largest islands in the country.

The Azure Ocean

Blue was never bluer!!! Trust me, I never knew blue could look so beautiful before I stepped in the Maldives. The sight of the ocean created a soothing effect. It looked inviting, yet it also created a state of dilemma. Should I step into it, or just find a couch and admire its beauty (Read: the azure shade).

The beauty of ‘blue syndrome’ caught my imagination even before I landed at the Male airport. The first sight of the tiny capital island of Male from the flight window, surrounded by the azure ocean was a sight indeed, and set tone for the things to come.

And what a scene it was coming out of the airport and getting face to face with the shining ocean. An everlasting experience it was. Not many airports around the world can claim to welcome the guests with a more beautiful setting than Male. That’s the power of blue for you.

Underwater Magic

What a beautiful world it was down there..The sight of the colourful corals is still vivid in my memory. And add to it, the schools of fishes playing hide n seek with you. Red, gold, yellow, blue…you name it.

Snorkelling in the Maldives is a divine experience. The depth of the ocean remains shallow even if you venture deep inside. This, together with the crystal clear water enables you to have a clear sight of the underwater life. The corals seem to be at a hands distance. Even the currents are extremely mild, which helps u float at your own pace.

To sum it up, nature has placed all the ingredients in a perfect proportion, making the islands a perfect destination to be up close with the underwater world and witness the beauty at its very best.

Really. Everything in the Maldives is an experience in itself. The tantalizing spa therapies, lying in the inviting pools with the waves creating a background score, or just sitting on the resort decks and sipping your favorite cocktail.

The joys and pleasures derived from doing small things make the overall experience a truly magical one. Mind you.. There are no flashy markets, no ‘tourist attraction’ as such and the place is by no means a shopping destination. But here lies the true beauty of the islands. It’s all about the nature and you. It’s all about getting lost in a tropical paradise..
